How can I see the firmware version?

by dji411 / January 22, 2009 10:08 AM PST

I have had my LN40A650 for 4 days now. I love it. I have been reading this forum for a few days now and also registered the LCD on samsung website. According to samsung.com my set was manufactured on 12/31/2008. I am assuming it has the latest firmware but I would like to check. Is there a way to see the firmware version or do I have to attempt to upgrade it?

Firmware version ID.
by degadave / January 24, 2009 6:46 AM PST

I also could not find the version on myLN46A650A1F, manufactured in November '08. Reading the software upgrade procedures in the manual (page 62), I downloaded the latest from Samsung on a stick and went through the procedure to put the stick in the TV USB do software upload, it finds the key on the stick, asks you if you want to replace 2008.9 with 2007. Obviously I checked "CANCEL".....just be careful that you don't install an earlier version and just cancel out of the upgrade if you have a later version already installed.

Determined to not strike out...

DJ411,

What I would suggest you do is then download the fireware and attempt the update. Like the above poster noted, it will prompt you to replace version xxxx.x with version xxxx.x before the update begins.

Chances are that the firmware is outdated, as the new ones allow you to find the current versions for convenience sake.

As always, if you aren't experiencing issues, I don't recommend upgrading.

Strike 3 - My Firmware is 2008.9
by dji411 / January 24, 2009 10:08 AM PST

For giggles I downloaded the "latest" firmware from samsung.com which is listed as 2007.0 and ran the Software Upgrade. I got the same message as degadave Do you want to Replace 2008.9 with 2007.0? Which I cancelled.

So I have the latest firmware and it must have a new feature (bug) to hide the version that is currently running and the only way to find it is to attempt to upgrade.

Thanks for your responsiveness.
