How can I place a shortCut on left side of deskTop?

by vmars956 / May 3, 2010 1:40 PM PDT

Often when I install a new program,
the setup INSTALLS a shortCut, way over on the left side of deskTop,
along with IE and RecycleBin.
Then comes the deskTop FOlders.
Where as, all other shortCuts get installed on the right after the Folders.
My question is: How can I place a shortCut on left side of deskTop?

Disable the automatic positioning (via a right-click on the desktop) and drag-and-drop every icon to where you want it.

Its more complex than that:

Its more complex than that:
The shortcuts that I am referring to, STAY on the left side of DeskTop,
even after I do a "Arrange Icons/ by Name". They STAY there.
Try it yourself.
How do they do that?

Then don't do, *Arrange icons by*

don't choose Sort by, don't select Auto Arrange, but do select "Align to grid, if you want the shortcuts evenly spaced.

That works for me.
