How can I get rid of the searchnu browser hijacker?

by wolfmanjack1959 / April 6, 2013 3:39 AM PDT

I recently wound up getting the searchnu browser hijacker on my computer after downloading a program a couple of months ago. I did manage to get rid of it in Internet Explorer, but I had to uninstall Google Chrome because I could not get rid of it there. In fact, now when I try to re-download and install Google Chrome, the server rejects it, because it finds the searchnu app listed as something like "bearshare". I cannot find it. My antivirus programs do not find it either. How can I get it off my computer?

Some things you can do
by wpgwpg / April 6, 2013 3:51 AM PDT

Get your antivirus program up to date and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide themselves from your antivirus program in normal mode, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode when you first power up, hit F8 about once a second until you get the menu and select Safe Mode. Then run a full system scan.

Additional things to try..

Give AdwCleaner a try. Read the instructions at the given site.

Then follow with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, if you haven't done so already.

If in addition to BearShare you also have iLivid installed, I would suggest removing it. You might also find it listed as programs developed by APN LLC or Bandoo Media Inc.

Try scanning with the above first. If you have no success, please post back and let us know which OS you're running.

Best of luck..
