How can I change my boot-up from UEFI to Legacy?

by chrismmaas / March 1, 2013 9:39 AM PST

I bought a brand new Sony S series and it was shipped with windows 7 and boots in UEFI mode. I have encryption software I need to install, and it's not compatable with UEFI mode. In my bios I see the option to change the boot mode to legacy, but when I do that and restart the computer I get this message 'operating system not found'. How can I run my computer in legacy mode? Do I have to re-install windows?

Since it's so new, be sure they offer the supplied OS to restore with. It's likely that the factory restore will fail so that's a loss. You may want to consider returning the unit for one that is without this new system.

In reply to: Yes.

It's too late to return the unit, but they did supply me with 7 discs to rebuild the system. It's not just the OS, but every single driver I need to rebuild the system. I'm just curious before i rebuild the system if it will revert back to UEFI. In other words even if I change the bios to legacy, before I start the reinstallation process, will it revert back to UEFI?

(NT) It shouldn't.
