How Best to Hook-Up DVD to HDTV

by RPW61 / December 4, 2006 3:33 AM PST

I'm a bit confused, what is the best way to connect my Toshiba SD-3750 DVD player to my new Samsung LN-S3251D LCD HDTV? Should I use S-Video or component video? Or, should I just new a new, relatively inexpensive, DVD player?

THANKS!!!!

Component video...

Component video provides for a better, richer picture than S-Video does so if you have a choice go with the former. I'd also stay with the DVD player you have...there's no reason to replace it at this point.

How Best to Hook-Up DVD to HDTV

I have a similar question to the previous one. I have a new Samsung LN-S3251D LCD HDTV and a Toshiba SD-V394SU DVD/VCR (8 months old). My Time-Warner cable box is also HD. That leaves me with 3 components (TV, cable box, and DVD), each with only one set of component video jacks. I have already noticed a great difference when using the component video cables between the HDTV and HD cable box - my TV picture is much better. That leaves me with the question of how to connect the DVD player (which has no HDMI or DVI) for the best picture. Should I just use S-video and standard audio cables? Or should I purchase a new upconverting DVD player with HDMI connections and use that to connect to the TV? I'm not at home right now so I'm not sure if the cable box has as HDMI jack.
