Question

help, new mac user

i just bought a powermac g4. i cant get updates cuz i dont have password from old user. is there a way i can reset password without his? thank you.

Use the Restore disks that came with the machine

A G4 can only run an older version of OS X

The latest OS the G4 can run is OS X 10.5 Leopard, which you can buy by calling Apple. There are some on eBay, but very expensive. Boot from the DVD by pressing the option key at start up and choosing the DVD. Once the install program screen loads, there will be a menu bar at the very top of the screen. Select utilities then choose reset password.

I recommend just using the disk utility to erase the drive, then do a fresh install of OS X. This way you safely delete the previous owner's data and set up a fresh user account of your own.
