HELP ME FIGURE OUT HOW TO DOWNLOAD VIDEO TO MAC...

by Catlin64 / February 5, 2004 7:52 AM PST

I recently received a Panasonic PV-GS70 digital camcorder/camera. The software that came with is for PC...and I can't download anything into my Mac. I'm using Final Cut Pro and the I-Movie programs without success. Help? Panasonic told me to try firewire (I did, no luck) or the USB import (no luck)...and now says I need a second-party vendor software...but won't tell me what software. Thanks....

I understand the pain. But only see Sony TRV models connected to Macs!

Can you exchange the camera?

It's time to call the local Apple store and ask for a compatibility list.

It is that simple.

I would have to second Mr.Proffitt's observation regarding compatibility, however I use a DV camera that is not on Apple's "compatibility" list. (It should REALLY be noted that Apple sells camcorders in it's on-line store that aren't listed as compatible!)
Depending on which software package you are using, including version, results may vary.
I too had a fairly confusing frustration the first time out, but here's Jeffe's notes: FireWire! (USB is not for video). Start with iMovie: (FinalCut is higher-end, and thus is more picky about what it will take.) launch the application, then plug in the powered-on camera set to it's "play" (VCR etc.) setting (as opposed to camera setting.) If iMovie STILL does not see the camera, then I'd start to worry about compatibility, and contact an Apple SPECIFIC retailer (not a chain, like CompUSA etc.) for help.
BTW: Nice Camera! Let me know if it works out. I was contemplating Panasonic for my next camera. I use a Canon presently.

Thanks so much. I will give it a shot. BTW...the camera takes incredible video and stills. I'm planning to take it to our local Apple store tomorrow to see what he can do. But thanks again for your suggestion.

Hello, The solution was recently sent out by CNET about 3 weeks ago. Do you subcribe to CNET Newsletters? If not, you should. There was another CNET secret to download and record from your old records such as a 33-1/3 record player. Send an email message to Lee Koo at CNET requesting the solution. CNET is amazing!
