Question

HDMI playback device disappeared

by al995 / June 8, 2013 4:01 AM PDT

Hi,
I have windows vista ultimate SP2, on a Gateway Laptop P-173XL FX.
I used to have three types of playback devices:
Speakers, Digital Output Device (SPDIF), and HDMI.
I was connecting to the TV through HDMI, and everything was working fine.
Suddenly, my playback device HDMI disappeared (probably after a windows update I suppose), and I cannot get the computer sound through HDMI on my TV anymore.
How could I re-install that device back?
Thank you.

Have you tried System Restore?
by wpgwpg / June 8, 2013 4:28 AM PDT

You can use System Restore to go back to a time before the problem started. I have to ask if you've used a so-called registry cleaner. They don't help and can cause mysterious problems.

No luck!

I did after you suggested it, and I went as back as possible. Unfortunately, no luck. Still no HDMI sound device!
This is very strange. Thank you for your time and your answer anyway.

Will not work for me unfortunately
by al995 / June 18, 2013 1:43 AM PDT

The driver cannot be installed. I think the only solution left, is to make a general back-up, list all the softwares to be reinstalled, and format my hard drive...
This is more or less a three days job. I'll do it as soon as I find the courage...

Remember that some drivers must be installed first.

For example you must install a motherboard driver before the video driver. All this is pretty well discussed so I tend to summarize.
