Question

HDMI Input Greyed Out

by tranmerer69 / January 20, 2013 11:41 PM PST

I have a Samsung LE46f86BD and have just had the AV board replaced after it decided to die on me. I think it was caused by a power surge via the aerial connector as my sat receiver also blew.

The problem I have now is that, although the AV works fine, scart connectors work fine, the HDMI input channels are not recognising anything and are greyed out. Apart from that the TV seems to work ok.

Any ideas?

Since you had it serviced you ask the tech to complete the repair. Repairs come with a warranty so all this means is that you use that repair warranty.

Hi Bob, not that easy I'm afraid.

I work out in Nigeria for the British High Commission, hence the power surge. Had it on a UPS with surge protection, but the power here is pretty flakey. I had to source and get the part sent out from the UK, then installed by one of the sparks employed by the mission. So unfortunately I don't have the luxury of grabbing a yellow pages and picking an engineer to come and check it, or bringing into a local repair shop. Was kind of hoping it was something simple in the setup or settings.

Many thanks for your post though.

The HDMI might gray out if what's on the other side is gone. You'll want to test that HDMI player on another set.

You need to know that I've yet to see this forum have a discussion for TV repair techs but you may get lucky. All I can suggest is you cut your losses by whatever means possible.
Bob
