Having a problem retrieving instant view NetFlix titles.

by cabissi / July 28, 2009 6:38 AM PDT

I purchased my player, BD-P3600, this weekend and have encountered this strange problem. I am able to connect to the network via wireless and I also tried a wired connection with the same results. Although the unit passes the network test, when it connects to NetFlix it identifies the movies that I have entered into the cue for instant viewing, but here is the problem. All of the movies and shows appear as gray boxes with the words no image available on them. Then when I select one for instant play, after several seconds I get the message that this title is not available for instant viewing. This happens with any title I try it with. I have deactivated the account and reset the machine and the same problem happens. I have absolutely no problem with Pandora. A laptop on the same connection connects to the internet and NetFlix without a problem. I am about out of ideas. Anyone have an idea of why this is happening and even better, how to fix it?

Having a problem retrieving instant view NetFlix titles.

cabissi,

I checked our database of information and didn't find anything. So I called Netflix to see if they could give me a general idea of what it might be. They couldn't pinpoint it directly, but said that if you called in (1-866-716-0414, 24/7) they might be able to help you out. The customer service at Netflix, IMO, is great. They're a pretty professional bunch over there.

If that doesn't work, let me know.

Contacting NetFlix
by cabissi / July 28, 2009 11:03 AM PDT

Thank you for responding. I started with NetFkix and they were very professional. After escalating the problem they were not able to identify a problem and suggested that I try Samsung. They too tried resetting the machine and reactivating the account to no avail. I am still waiting on the escalated response from the service center and thaought while I was waiting I would see if anyone had any ideas.

One thing I thought might be a problem is that I am runnign this upstairs where I am using a NetGear powerline range extender that is reportedly able to reach HD streaming speeds. I am using it wired to a NetGear switcher and wired to the BluRay player. I would not think that this would be a problem, but I thought to mention it.

cabissi,

It still doesn't sound like the unit is working correctly. I've not come across that particular symptom. Instead of waiting *too long* for a resolution, I might suggest exchanging it. If the same problem shows up again, then we can at least narrow it down to the router and see if we can fix it from there.

bd-p3600 doesnt want to stream Netflix.

I have this same issue on my bd-p3600. Netflix says its a know issue and gave me a number to call at Samsung. They said it has to do with the last firmware upgrade. I haven't had a chance to call Samsun within their hours of operation. Hopefully a fix will come out soon. It works about 10% of the time but 90% of the time I get the unavailable message.

Try turning off the proxy settings in both the BD player menu and the router setup.

BD3600 not streaming movies

I called Samsung and they had no awareness of the problem and said that they have tested it and have working units. They had me exchange the unit, but it was the same thing again. Finally I checked with Netgear and they determined that the problem was in the router. I was ready for an upgrade so I ordered a new and faster one with better WAN to LAN numbers and voila, everything worked fine. Might have only taken a reset to the router, but I wanted the faster speeds anyway. So that is the end to my story.

router

I switched out routers to see if that was the issue, same thing happens. The proxy is turned off on the BD-P3600, no proxy setting that I could see on the router. everything has been power cycled.

What router are you using and what type of security?
Proxy settings in the router are probably under Security > Firewall
All instances I've seen with missing movie covers have all been resolved through security / proxy settings. Movie cover images aren't on the same server as the actual media so something is preventing you from reaching that server. You should be able to View Logs through the router to see what's been denied, so to speak. I'm by no means a network specialist but have done a fair amount of research and whole heartedly believe this is a network setting/issue (even though you've tried two routers.)

The link below is for linksys interactive UI showing the security page settings. Of course this will differ by router, but just an example.

If you're unable to resolve this, let me know the router manf/model number and your setup and I'll do some investigating.

Mu issue is that every time I connect to netflix, it says it is temporarily unavailable. It has gone to not working 100% of the time now. Pandora works just fine.

I have tried to connect with a D-Link DIR-615 and a Linksys WRT330N. Both with the same results. I have tried wired and wireless. I have tried straight to the modem and through a router. The system apparently does not allow to rollback the firmware, or reinstall the current. The network system test always comes back fine. I have tried it with and without the firewall activated. I think it is a firmware issue myself. It worked fine before the last one.

Any ideas?

current router is a d-link DIR-615, I have also tried my Linksyst WRT330N.

I wonder also, should it matter if they are in mixed mode or should they specifically be set to wireless G or another?

Netflix Unavailable
by blu-ray chic / August 14, 2009 5:39 AM PDT

I have a couple ideas. First, when you connect to the network, is your access point listed or do you have to use "other" in the AP selection? AFter the connection is made, are you clicking save? Sometimes the screen goes right back to the menu before you've hit save and even the AP is listed, the settings are not necessarily retained.

Please try the following.
reset the player by pressing and holding FF while the player is on and with no disc inside.
Power player back on. Select one for English.
Re-enter the network settings and run a test. All good? > Continue.
Go to NTP On or Off and turn it OFF. Then
Go to System settings and check the Time Zone. Chances are it says London... Change this to your correct time zone and then set the clock. If NTP is set to ON it will likely set your clock back an hour so please make sure this is set to off and then try Netflix again. Please let me know how you make out. I'm only here for a little longer and may not be able to check back until tomorrow some time.
Good luck.

I am not able to connect to netflix at all. Pandora is fine. I get the Netflix is temporarily unavailable message. This appears to have started with the recent firmware upgrade. Is there not a way to roll it back or re-update the current firmware?

Netflix - Can't connect
by blu-ray chic / August 14, 2009 5:55 AM PDT

I'm sorry. I got a little confused with the cross posting. Happy Techincally, you could roll back the firmware if there was firmware available but since 1.3 is the first update, the previous factory update is not available for consumer installation.

With that said, how did you update the firmware? CD or USB or did you do a network update? With both the CD and USB updates you are required to install the update twice - this time only. If it was only installed once, this could be a potential problem. The second update will actually update the loader firmware which shouldn't have cause repercussions with Netflix, but you never know. If you didn't install the f/w a second time, please do so and then follow the instructions in my previous post regarding the reset and clock, etc.

I know you said you tried with and without the firewall but what type of encryption/security are you using? Do you have mac filtering on? Have you ever updated the f/w on the router? I'll take a look at the router support page and let you know if anything stands out.

Same Issue, Different Router

I have a Samsung 1600. I can acess blockbuster trailers, pandora & YouTube with no problems. I can connect to Netflix to see my queue, but no movie covers or movies will stream. I have a NETgear VPN Firewall FVS318V3 router. I've made the changes that I've seen on this site to the DVD player, but the results are the same. Any suggestions ?

Netflix Streaming
by Statictrap / August 21, 2009 7:13 AM PDT

I've seen with multiple versions of Samsung players, that they do not seem to work well with routers in multiple protocol support modes, usually their default. Many routers support multiple protocols like 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n. I had the same problem streaming Netflix video where it seems to connect, you get the text, but no pics or ability to stream. By placing my router into wireless-N only mode, the only mode the player supports, it began working fine. There is apparently something going on when multiple protocols are supported in the router, like it detects your neighbors wirelss-G or B network and the interaction with the Samsung units falls apart. I've seen it with multiple router vendors, so I suspect it is something going on with how the Samsung units implemented their interface protocol. You might give that a try and see if that works for you.

I had the same issue.

I had this same issue for about 5 hours. I finely did a full reset of my Netgear router from inside the admin panel.

I think it had something to do with me using allowed devices for wireless security.
