GIF images will not display

windows xp, dell diminsion 2400
gif images abruptly stopped displaying, all i get is a solid red box
i have tried system restore, made sure images checked in multimedia in internet options, checked auto select in encoding under view
so it would seem to be an error in XP according to dell
the mvp's at windows have yet to respond
someone please help if you can

I, too, am having the same problem: and I have checked out my "advanced internet options," and my
boxes are all correct. I have been searching everywhere for answers to this; there are some applications to try on: Computer Help Forum.
