Too often we try unplugging the optical and HDD and if it still does that after the generic reset we ask the owner if they want to pay for a new motherboard.
There was a similar thread here a while back, but it is more than 2.5 years old. So, I decided to try starting a new one.
AMD Athlon 64
My computer was running fine all day until I closed the lid briefly and the power cable was accidentally pulled out by my wife. I had the power settings arranged so that closing the lid does nothing as long as it's plugged in. But, since it was unplugged, it went into hibernation.
When I went back to use it, the power button did nothing. I thought it might be a glitch, so I shut down for 5 minutes. I pushed the power button again. The led indicators lit up and the fan began spinning. After 3-5 seconds everything just stopped. The lights indicate full power and the system is on, but there is no picture, nothing will boot.
A previous thread indicated a common problem in this model with the cable leading from the power button to the motherboard. So, I opened it up and checked the points of contact by shorting the sods at both ends of the cable. The problem continues to persist.
Can anyone offer any help? Thanks in advance!
