Question

G4 Wont Sleep

by coatsfh / January 16, 2013 11:50 PM PST

I'm running OS 10.6 on an old mirror door G4 (dual 1.83 GHz Processors) and the monitor will sleep but the machine won't. When I try to put it to sleep, it reawakens immediately. What is the likely cause?

Answer
At the shop we reload the OS to rule out that issue.

If it fails after the OS reload, we call it hardware. G4 machines are well past the years you expected to last so we rarely see them.

Occasionally it will go to sleep normally so it is not software. What hardware component is likely to be the culprit?

I can't tell from this.

But given how software can work and then not I still do that test. You may encounter an owner that doesn't want to do this test so hand the machine back to let them season and tender.

Check the Startup items for apps that may be the culprit
