Function key is stuck on.

by monkyboy29 / December 22, 2006 8:25 AM PST

I am having a problem with my function key on my older Dell Insperion laptop. For some reason it's stuck on, where you have to press it to access the normal keys. Instead of it being the other way around.

Any help would be great!!

Do you mean the NUMLOCK? If so, your Christmas present...

It's on a Dell Isperion 7500 running XP pro.

It's not the numlock, this is a laptop.

It's a function key that allows you to access extra keys using the limited keys already on the board. Mine is actually blue. So for instance, you have the "J, K, L" line of the keyboard. Instead of typing out those letters it will type 123.

In order to type the letters, I have to hit the function key. Think of it like a shift key that's stuck on.

I have no problems with it when it's in my docking station, only when it's out on it's own.

One other strange thing I've noticed is not all the extra functions seem to be working. Such as the arrow down and up keys their extra function is to lighten and darken the screen, yet they still continue to scroll up and down like normal.

It seems that only the extra functions on the main area of the keyboard seem to be affected.

Thanks for the help.
