Freezeup on LG bp220

by ewashguy / January 28, 2013 6:40 AM PST

Bought my 1st blu ray player in late Nov. and have used it a bit since then, maybe 10-15 times total, with some blu ray movies, the rest, standard dvd's, with NO freezeups until Sat. I was about 1 1/2 hours into "Total Recall" when it froze. I couldn't do anything, buttons did not respond, so after starting and restarting the movie 3 times, and then trying to watch, again, it froze, and I just gave up at that point.

I have had no freezeups until this point. I then went to LG's website, and they suggested the dvd blu ray may be dirty, or scratched, so I did check the movie, and it looked like there may have been something on it, and it may have had a scratch, possibly. Like I said, I gave up at this point. I have been researching this issue all weekend. Sounds like this is pretty common with blu ray players. I do have another blu ray movie I will be watching later this week, will see how it goes I guess.

I take it these are very sensitive machines.....

BD player updates are legendary and issues with some titles make me wonder if they can ever get it right. In fact, what is going on here to require an internet connection for some titles.

What happened to "just press play"?

Thanks for your reply. I am a blu ray newbie as I mentioned, what exactly does bd stand for? Thanks! I am not now using this player and connecting it for the apps use. Just going to use it as a player only.

BD for example could be the topic BluRay Disc.

You'll see other folk write BR player, BD and once in a while BRD. Sorry to use short acronyms but it was on topic so I did.

Thanks for your reply. What I meant to say is I will continue to use this player but am not going to connect to the internet and purchase a router, at least for now. I got a new blu ray disc today " Drive" so am eager to see how this goes. Fingers are crossed.
