Question

Firefox browser image spinning

by danawenco / January 8, 2012 5:49 AM PST

Not sure if this is malware related. Just now, when I enter a search string on www.google.com, results are listed, but the image on the browser spins around in a circular motion. The spinning stops when I stop entering, and resumes when I type something again. After restarting my browser I don't notice it anymore.

I am using Win 7, Firefox 8.0.1. My latest scans (Microsoft Security Essentials) is clean. Thanks.

Answer
What was the search string?
by MarkFlax Forum moderator / January 8, 2012 5:57 AM PST

If you type in to Google search do a barrel role the page will spin. It's a Google Easter Egg special effect.

I've also seen a YouTube video with someone saying they can make the browser spin, (browser or just web page?). But I didn't watch it all.

I went to google.com and typed DO I in the search bar. Nothing special happened Sad . All static. I don't have any idea what should start to spin, but it didn't. And I do have the latest 3.6 version (3.6.25).

Yes, I search for Do I See and nothing spins, not even in Firefox 9.0.1.

So it doesn't look like it's malware related

Thanks! So as long as it doesn't look like it's malware related I will just relax then. Cheers.

No it isn't malware, just Google playing with us.

and it looks like only you and I are the favored ones here since neither Carol nor Kees can duplicate the effect. Happy

I just tried it in Chrome and it works there, but not in IE9.

LOL, I just found another link where it says type z or r twice and the page rolls! All I had to type was z or .. and it did it.

There are quite a few of these Google whimsical's, but none of them are dangerous or malware.
