Fan louder on Windows XP than Windows 7?

by nikozbk / April 30, 2009 7:42 AM PDT

I am currently dual booting Windows 7 with XP on my machine (7 installed first) and I'm noticing that the fan is louder when I am running Windows XP than on 7. On 7, you can't even hear the fan. It's great. But on XP, every little action will follow with the fan blowing louder. I've ran CCleaner & Tuneup Utilities 2009 on XP to clean up the junk. I've cleaned up the startup programs. I have 3 gigs of RAM.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 & Ad-Aware 2009 Pro Anniversary Edition.

To nail this one you have to have a sit down with "people who write drivers." I write such software and these will NEVER be the same from OS to OS. But the good news is such things do make money for those tech support lines. Hint? Don't spend too much time or money on something like this.

I hear what you're saying. Ever since I've cleaned my fan with a can of air, the fan hasn't really bothered me, especially on 7. I guess it's something you gotta get used to, thanks.

ACPI fan control levels can differ from OS to OS from driver to driver and tweak to tweak and from system to system.

The worst thing you can do is equip a person with 2 same model laptops. Next thing you know they'll ask why they differ.
