"Error submitting scan results to server." on Windows 7 x64

by icnocop / March 3, 2011 / 2:49 PM UTC

Hi.

Thank you for CNET TechTracker v2.0.1.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 and I always receive the following error after a scan and no scan results are available:

An error occurred during the scan: Error submitting scan results to server.
Please try the scan again.

I also tried running CNET TechTracker as Administrator, but I experience the same behavior.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

same OS, same error, is there a resolution?
by smith_w_d / April 17, 2011 / 1:19 PM UTC

I am also on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 sp1 and I am getting the same error with the CNet TechTracker failing when it tries to submit scan results to the server.

Is there a resolution to this yet?

It was working fine until a few days ago. Now what?
What data can I give you to help debug this?

Error message attempting to run TechTracker
by sytyguy / May 21, 2011 / 3:59 AM UTC

I am running Windows 7 Pro SP1.

I was running XP Pro on another machine, and it worked fine, but I cannot get it to run on Win7. I deleted the other computer from TechTracker, and now it sees no computer after it is installed. Here is the event log:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Roaming\CBS Interactive\CNET TechTracker\TechTracker.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762" could not be found. Error when running TT under windows 7 pro 64 bit
by sytyguy / May 25, 2011 / 5:39 PM UTC
In reply to: Common thread?

It appears there are many people able to run/install TT on this system, but it also appears there are many who cannot.

I submitted a ticket and have had no response what so ever from support. Very discouraging??? It ran fine on XP Pro, plus I liked the software, and really wish I could run it on my current system and new computer.

I have 2 computers, one with 32-bit Windows 7 and the other with 64-bit Windows 7...neither work. I submitted a support ticket and they asked what antivirus/firewalls I have installed (their response took 9 days). I disabled all and tried again, but no luck. After telling them that 3 weeks ago, I have not heard anything back.

New Version (2.0.4) Still Not Fixed for x64
by jonnydock / September 6, 2011 / 6:52 AM UTC

It sill gives the same error:

"An error occurred during the scan: Error submitting scan results to server. Please try the scan again. If available, TechTracker will show the last successful scan results. If you continue to see this error please contact CNET TechTracker Support (http://cnet.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/cnet.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1946) for further assistance."

Also, I do not see any of the features from the "Plus" version in the Free version yet. Maybe this means another version will be out soon????

PSI does something completely different from what TechTracker does. You can't use PSI as a substitute for TechTracker. (PSI reports on security issues, TechTracker reports on updates whether or not the older version has a security issue.)

I have been running into this issue now myself for about a month. Tried a complete uninstall / reinstall, and no love. Now a new version is out, as of yesterday.... I got a little excited; I thought maybe this would fix things.... but NOPE. I submitted a ticket but it is obvious that doing that is like dropping something into a black hole. I used to like this software.

In reply to: so....

This software used to work for me many months ago when I first installed it. But some time ago (can't remember exactly when anymore...it's been so long) it stopped working. It's been months now and I still get the same error trying to upload to the server.

Well, at least we know they have not abandoned it.
by jonnydock / December 16, 2011 / 7:10 AM UTC

I also have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and I also get the same error with the new 2.1.0 version.

I wish they would post what the problem is on their side and open it up to the forum for help on fixing it. Maybe we can collectively get it fixed faster...

Come on, CNET! What is the hold up on this fix?

"Smart Install" feature seems to work
by jonnydock / December 16, 2011 / 7:33 AM UTC

I just noticed that when I go to my updates list at "http://www.cnet.com/techtracker/" and I set an application to be update using "Smart Install" my browser opens the "cbsitt" file using TechTracker. Then, the application update is automatically downloaded and installed. It seems to work for all the available applications (except for TechTracker; it continually tries to update itself).

I agree with "Out_There", the problem is on their web service. It looks to be failing updating your personal list of applications that need updating.

I will keep trying things in this new version...
