DVDRW drive does not recognize ANY discs

by laladeda84 / January 16, 2008 1:53 PM PST

OS: Windows XP
I just bought and installed a new Sony DVDRW drive (DRU-830A). Whenever I put in a disc, it is not recognized. I try right clicking on the drive in my computer and clicking open, it says please insert a disc. It does light up and make noise. IMGburn and DVDFab both recognize discs in it even when my computer says it is not there. So, I cannot watch DVDs, listen to a CD, or install any programs from a disc. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and updating the firmware. None of it made any difference. Someone please help.

If you have two disc drives: burn a knoppix CD and boot from it in one drive and test the DVD drive with media.

If you have one disc drive: Make a bootable USB key and boot from it, mount the writer by inserting media then playing.
