down load speeds

I have 2 comps. same make and spec. they are connected to the modem router the same way ,when I do a speed test there is 6mb difference in down load speed any ideas why this happens, xp pro . on 1 comp. win 7 on other

Which one is faster?

I've read that Windows 7 is better optimized for downloading than XP. If it's Windows 7 that's faster, that would explain it.

Hi win xp pro. is the fastest at 15 to 16 mbps, win 7 is 9 to 10 mbps

If they're using WiFi, maybe one is closer to the router? How much RAM does the Win 7 PC have? What is the CPU utilization on the Win 7 PC? Do both have the same network adapter? There're a lot of factors to consider.
