Pictures are part of the mail itself. So the question comes down to: do they archive a copy or a backup of your mail, and - if so - how long? What does their customer service say if you ask them?

Given the recent news, all such things are kept by someone.

It's all in the news so if you want it to be private, never put it in an email, web or other.

Not necessarily true

This does not answer the question from a point of actual knowledge. It is a guess.

Kik may say they don't

In reply to: Not necessarily true

But in the news are governments that have been logging it all.

You can make the argument that you can't know what governments have logged and kept but with what can be at stake, my advice is to never send what could embarrass or kill you.

No, Kik keeps nothing

According to Kik Help Center, this partially answers the question.
Can I get deleted chats back?

Kik doesn't store any of your messages, so once you've deleted your chats, we can't retrieve them for you.

It's possible the person you were talking to still has the chat on their app and can send you the messages you're looking for. was the source of the above.
