Disappearing cursor and text

by RobGlennie000 / October 20, 2013 11:19 AM PDT

Kia Ora

I am having this problem in various text fields including this one where the cursor randomly jumps with no assistance whatsoever.

What can I do to stop it?

What kind of computer or laptop?

If it is a laptop you might be accidentally brushing the touch pad area. Try using a different keyboard.

Dell Inspiron 530 (2007 vintage)
by RobGlennie000 / October 20, 2013 5:52 PM PDT

The device concerned is a desk top. It has also (increasingly frequently) being having ticking sound bouts that are consistent with pending hard drive failure, but this seems to be more immediate because I cannot actually use the computer right now. This message is coming from an old laptop that I have hooked up.

I tried checking for updates, and ran the virus checker. Nothing. I tried going into Safe Mode but it stymied me by not loading. Could this and the erratic cursor and text be linked to the same problem?

I'll have to take it in if I can't find a solution because I have university assignments being done on a geriatric laptop, and they cannot really hang on.
