Dialogue box in the middle of the screen that won't go away.

by skywalkersanders / March 13, 2010 10:37 AM PST

I am running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 5150. A couple of days ago, my dad said the computer wasn't working for some reason, so I checked it out, and everything was gone from the screen besides the background. Files and icons and what-have-you, were all gone, with the exception of a small dialogue box in the middle of the screen. All it says is "ok" and there is an "ok" button at the bottom, and the red "x" at the top. I've clicked both buttons several times, but nothing has happened. I'm scared to unplug the computer, or restart it or anything, because I don't know what it will do. If anyone can please help, that'd be awesome. Thanks

desktop wallpaper with the taskbar hidden and all the icons hidden as well. If you right click beside the dialogue box do you get the display menu? Maybe your Dad is playing a trick on you.

Well, it's not my computer, and it's actually his office computer with all of his business on it, so there wouldn't be a reason for him to try and trick me.
