delete a partially installed program

by whtail / June 20, 2004 5:04 AM PDT

I have a partially loaded spyware program on my laptop. (Major power failure while I was downloading it.) Now, the spyware program doesn't run but it keeps forcing me to the product registry page when I power up. How can I delete this? I have office 2000.

First, look in Control Panel, Add\Remove Programs to see if the program is listed there. If not you can go to the location of the folder and delete it. (C:\Program Files).
If it is listed as an installed program, it would be best to attempt to re-install the program and then un-install through the Add\Remove programs in Control Panel. This method will remove all the files that were installed by this program. If you simply delete the folder on the harddrive, it will leave the entry in add remove programs, as well as any other files that may have been installed elsewhere on the drive.

Many Thanks Ernie.
I was able to go into (C:\Program Files\) and delete Spykiller without any apparent problems. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Whtail, Which Program??
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / June 20, 2004 12:13 PM PDT

Maybe there are manual uninstall instructions at the manufacturer's website or elsewhere. Have you check Google for such uninstall instructions?

Hope this helps.
