Cracked Plasma screen

by JoeP89 / October 26, 2012 3:04 AM PDT

My 60" Viera plasma TV - 8 mos old - has developed a spider crack in the inside glass panel. Has anyone had the same problem and have you been able to get a new tv via warranty from Panasonic ? I have read that it's a thermal expansion problem more common with Samsung than Pan. Pretty upset. Thanks.

This issue is not limited to any maker. This and the image retention issues is why I skipped plasma sets. The warranties don't cover this so folk get very upset.

No sale here.

Thanks Bob. I can't believe I didn't come across this problem when researching LCD vs Plasma, etc. I also can't believe they wouldn't cover this under warranty. I may try talking to Panasonic. I'm sure that will be a fun experience. In the meantime I just hope the crack in my screen doesn't get any larger or more noticeable.

If anything new happens with this issue I will be sure to post it for other consumers.

Thanks again for the reply.

Cracked screen update

Just an update for those interested:

My tv eventually went blank and put itself in a self-protection mode. There was nothing to do except call a TV repair guy.

Panasonic covered the TV under warranty. It was repaired (new screen and 2 new boards). My TV guy had to take pictures and talk to Pan but they were reasonable and agreed that it was a defect. Apparently, some pixels shorted out and caused excessive heat and the crack and the eventual complete failure. He told me that this does not reset the one-year warranty back to another year, so if it happens again I will be stuck. He also rolled his eyes when I mentioned Samsung. <div>
Panasonic was fair about this and the tv is working fine again.

It's nice when it gets taken care of.

I opened a case and they escalated it to upper managament I think and they told me this problem os not coverage by the warranty.
I wonder if you can give the phone numbers of Panasonic or the person's name you talked to to have my TV repair but is the same problem here.

I have the same problem

I have the same problem with my Panasonic 50" plasma TV, and much to my disappointment, it is not being considered under warranty by Panasonic.

Please help in any way.
