Core i5-3350 or AMD FX-Series

by gary1580 / March 7, 2013 4:48 AM PST

I'm considering purchasing a new computer for my work. I use it all day for emails, web and Photoshop. Photoshop takes up a lot of resources when I do automated tasks so I need it to be fast but it will NOT be used for gaming.

Which of these specs are better? What's the difference between the i5 & the AMD?

1) Fry's $799
Hp Envy H8-1430 Desktop PC with Intel Core i5-3350 Processor,10GB DDR3 Memory,2TB SATA Hard Drive

2) Best Buy $699
HP - ENVY Desktop - 10GB Memory - 1.5TB Hard Drive
AMD FX-Series

For my money, the i5

Your AMD is for fans and those on a tight budget. Sadly, with HP's failure to fix my laptop at 3 months old and 6 months later no fixed laptop I can't write nice about HP. I'd accept this if you think the warranty may not be honored.

Cpu perf wise both are very close.

The Fry's machine has a larger Hd and a video card.

The BB machine has a smaller Hd and integrated graphics.

Your call.
