Connection keeps dropping on my laptop

by rocklesson86 / November 29, 2010 1:20 PM PST

I have a used Dell Latitude D610 that I just bought on Friday from Discount Electronics. The wireless is card is Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI C. It keeps on dropping it's signal every 5mins and goes back on for another. When the signal is on, it says it still authenticating. I took back to the store and it worked fine too. The main modem is a Netgear modem from Time Warner. My mum and my sister's laptop work fine. What can I do to fix it?

I can't tell if this is the usual hidden SSID or paper thin WEP security in use.

Tell a little more.

In the router's manual. Some want to avoid learning about wifi routers yet want to manage them. That can end badly.

I have WPA-Personal(PSK). Isn't SSID the network name?

Sorry no.

If we keep to what things are called, the network name is one thing and the SSID is another.

Just so you know, the easy stuff can be found with google. This is all volunteer so just like a person that helps you change your tire you have to pitch in and help. Once in a while folk forget this and want the support you have to pay for.
