Connect computer to hdtv using vga cable in windows xp home

by datakop / August 8, 2009 6:43 AM PDT

Do I need windows media center on my dell laptop to connect my laptop to the tv. When the connection is in place and PC is selected on the tv, I get " no signal"

or, is there some setting on the laptop that needs to be done?

Thanks

Duncan

No

No, you just need to enable the VGA output on your laptop. Read the manual to find out how, because it's different with every laptop.

connecting to tv

Hi,

Thanks very much for responding.

We got a step further than before.

Now we see the desktop background on the HDTV, but no desktop icons.

We tried different settings, but to no avail. At one point, we could see the mouse on the TV, but not on the laptop??

My buddy just wants to be able to see his soccer using LiveFooty from his laptop to his TV and he would be immensely happy.

Unforunately, I dont know how to make it work.

He has a Dell laptop running windows xp home premium.

Hoping that you can give me some more instructions to get him set up.

Thanks

Duncan

P.S. I can display from my Acer laptop(using his VGA cable), but I do have Windows Media Center.

Change your settings from extending your desktop onto the second monitor to mirroring.

Hi,

Thanks again for responding.

I can not find where to change it to Mirrorring

As before, I can see the desktop background, but still no icons or mouse activity on the TV.

Please help.

Thanks

Duncan
