Read http://www.eightforums.com/gaming/14913-installing-steam-causes-windows-lock-up-long-boot-time.html to find many reasons.
You should talk to your machine's maker what they think it is. Your post only shared a little of what would be required to figure it out but your machine looks very new so let the maker fix it as you can lock it up on demand.
My computer started quite recently freezing after I installed new software. I've mainly been installing games through Steam. The installation finishes, but when I launch the game for the first time there is always a "first time launch installation" where you update some windows-related things. And this is where my computer give up on me. The screen freezes and becomes black. Any audio I had running keeps playing for a couple of seconds before it starts loping a millisecond untill I manually shut the computer down. When I reboot my computer windows asks me to run a repair (which doesn't help what so ever) and after I've done that I can boot the computer normally. After I've done all of this I can then start the game that I tried to install and it will run perfectly. I never have any issues except for when I'm trying to install new software. I've also encountered this problem when installing Photoshop cs 6.
