computer freezes upon startup

by cuzanini / March 12, 2013 8:28 PM PDT

I have tried startup repair, but get the message that it is unable to effect repairs. I turn the computer on after sitting all night and it freezes. I turn it off and then turn it back on and it loads correctly. It seems to happen when the computer has been off for a considerable amount of time. I am using win 7 32 bit.

A little more information might help, computer type, hardware, recent changes made,if any, software/hardware. Also, what type of security software being used. Does the same situation occur running in Safe Mode? As mentioned, a bit more info might help.

The hard starting when cold is a symptom.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / March 13, 2013 12:44 AM PDT

There are two common causes of hard starting when cold. There are more but let's cover both.

Google BAD CAPS to see the pictures and stories.

2. A power supply that is just a little over taxed.
This one is almost like item one in that as these Electrolytic Capacitors (CAPS) warm they increase in value a little and work after the warmup.

Details are needed and for item 1, a visual inspection of all boards, including the power supply is required.
