Disable the screensaver. While irksome it solves the issue and actually can lower the heat and power consumption on the laptop.
I am having a problem with Windows XP professional SP3 installed on a MacBook Pro using bootcamp. When the screensaver appears I can return to the desktop by moving the mouse, but after that the taskbar does not respond at all. It is still possible to close programs from their own windows, but the start menu cannot be activated and no other element of the taskbar can. A search on this forum showed me two relevant posts (there may be more obviously), one suggested that it can be due to CPU overheating due to the workload of drawing the screensaver - unlikely in my case due to the specs, one suggested to disable the screensavers and get the screen to turn off after so much time - it irks me that I cannot correct the problem though. Some ideas on what to investigate? I just purchased a retail copy of Win XP professional, so that I could use the technical support, but I don't know if this situation is worth it. Thanks in advance for hte answers.
