cd player not working

by Ragu / January 4, 2005 5:55 AM PST

Good day everyone! My problem is: My cd dvd player is not working. I put a cd in it and it doesn't show a cd as being in it. The only way I can make it work is if I put cd in and then restart computer. It worked just fine up to a couple of days ago. I can click on my computer and it shows both dvd and cdrw as there, and if I have a disk in it shows that also but if I eject it and put another disk in it does't work unless I restart computer. I have windows XP Pro. This is also the same for my cdrw drive. When I go into device manager it shows both devices working properly. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou for your help.

You might try Windows to search for drivers. It seems you hardware is OK but you have a software problem.

My Computer, right click on the drive in question, choose properties.
Choose the autoplay tab at the top of the card.
Set the options the way that you like then click apply, the ok.
If the auto play option were set to "take no action" that's exactly what would happen.
Hope this will help.
Good Luck

I had AVG anti virus freeware on computer along with Nortons, and I was having a problem with updating AVG so went to their web site and was reading some of the forum guestions and found that several people were having the same problems as I was with my DVD-Rom and CD-RW. I removed AVG and now both drives work the way they should. Just wondering if anybody has come up with a solution to this problem yet. I found nothing in their web site. Thankyou Ragu

Nobody seems to have a solution to running more than one antivirus at a time or even a good reason to do so.
