CD drives recognize music, but not data

by cdennehy2000 / December 9, 2010 3:17 AM PST

The CD drives on my Windows ME machine recognize music cd's, but not cd's containing data (photos). Any ideas on why and/or how to remedy?

The usual reason is
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / December 9, 2010 5:47 AM PST

That the cd's were created with some drag to cd software. Titles include but limited too might be InCD, roxio, nero, directcd, and others.

The files are usually still there but you get to install their software to gain access.

No solutions yet... I have Easy CD&DVD Creator 6 installed on the machine, but when i try to uninstall I get this dialog box message: "THIS ACTION IS ONLY VALID FOR PRODUCTS THAT ARE CURRENTLY INSTALLED". The Creator 6 program is currently installed, but not working properly, as attempts to use "Creator Classic" function produce this message: "CANNOT INITIALIZE API. PLEASE REINSTALL THE ROXIO SOFTWARE". So i'm currently in a catch-22!

You can't uninstall. But you don't tell you can't reinstall. Generally, there's no need to uninstall before reinstalling. So that's worth a try.

Try that. Get your Roxio software CD out and try to install it.

Remember that antivirus software can interfere so disable that and firewalls during such work.
