Question

Cant boot from CD in Windows 8, help!

by stick joe / March 21, 2013 10:02 AM PDT

The title says it. How can I boot from CD? I've been in the BIOS and changed the boot order and saved the change but it's not working. Did I miss something or do it wrong?

I did it easily in Windows 7 but not here.

Help please. Thanx.

Have you checked to be sure the CD is OK?

I'd try making a copy of the CD and trying the copy. Sometimes a little scratch can cause this kind of thing. If it's been a while since you cleaned your DVD/CD drive, you might need to do that too.

Good luck.

I've tried with 2 different CDs and neither work so I doubt that's it.

The drive isn't dirty because I just bought the laptop so it's new.

bring it back to the place you purchased it from for warranty work, might be a faulty drive

Could it be that my CDs are for 32 bit but the laptop is a 64bit?

That would be a first.

So far the x86 x64 CPUs are running both 32 and 64 bit boot CDs.
So no.

Windows 8 has a different boot screen, 2 options I dont recognize. I'm probably doing something wrong in this screen but trying this other option gives me something that looks like a command prompt. I have no idea what to do with that.

?? Its not like Windows 7, that's for sure.
