Canon imageCLASS D550 Laser Multifunction Copier-set up

Just received this printer, I installed the software first (as mentioned in the instructions) then connected the USB cable. I can no locate the printer on my computer, I am using window vista. I can copy but can not scan or print. How do I set the printer up?
FYI, I see the printer's icon on the desktop

Finally found out that my PC did not meat the requirement for this printer/copier/scanner.
