Cannot delete icon of uninstalled program

by vocaldix / April 29, 2013 3:28 PM PDT

I have a windows XP Home Edition desktop computer. SP3. I have a folder on my desktop for Unused Icons. I had uninstalled CCCleaner a week ago but when I try to right-click and delete that icon in the folder, the folder freezes and says "not responding." I tried "search" and icon not found. I don't want to delete the whole folder because program icons are there I will need like IE8, etc. I use Firefox. What do I do?

That folders are just that. You are a seasoned XP user so why not use a command line to list and delete it?
Or Gyula's Navigator?
Or why not ignore it?

I may have been on XP for about 6 years, but am not an expert on computers. Self-taught past 10 years. What is command line? Never heard of Gyula's Navigator. guess I will just leave it there.

I don't want to drag the whole unused icons folder into the trash. I have to open it up to get at the icon and it takes up the whole screen.

It's a tool that comes in handy too many times. Think of it like the old Norton Commander. Much better than Windows Explorer in that it does not lie to you about what's a file or folder.
