Can't sync iPad 2 to my pc!

by ayngelwing / March 27, 2013 11:57 AM PDT

I have an iPad 2 64Gb, and a pc running Windows 7.
I can't find a way to make my computer sync music to my iPad, even though the troubleshooter at itunes says everything is perfect. One thing I do notice is that the top toolbar on my iPad 2, the little circular arrow shows a lock in the middle of it. Can anyone help? I've checked everything on my iPad, and not a single thing I can find is locked. I've also searched online, and this problem seems to be very widespread... Please help this not very computer savvy but doing her best pc/ipad2 user! Thanks!

What happens when I connect...
by ayngelwing / March 28, 2013 6:07 AM PDT

Thanks for contacting me, you are the only one so far!

to your PC? Nothing really happens, except the noise confirming connection.

Does iTunes fire up? Yes, it always opens on my music

Does the iPad show up in iTunes? Yes, it does.

Are there any error messages in iTunes when you try to sync?
No, it says its preparing to sync, step one-preparing to sync, step two-waiting to sync, and step three goes on and off so fast that I cant really read it, I think it might be something like waiting for changes...- but nothing syncs.

I appreciate any suggestions you might have, thanks!

With the iPad connected,
by mrmacfixit Forum moderator / March 28, 2013 8:28 AM PDT

and iTunes open, click on the icon of the iPad.
In the Main window, check to see exactly what is supposed to be syncing.

Check the music/contacts/calendars/pictures tabs for details.

No iPad icon...
by ayngelwing / March 28, 2013 4:52 PM PDT

As you suggested, I connected my iPad, and there was no iPad icon visible, so could not check the main window to see what is supposed to be syncing. The only way that I was previously able to attempt syncing was to go to File/Devices/Sync Glendas iPad. Now I cannot even do that as it is all greyed out... sigh.

I did also check the music/contacts/calendars/pictures tabs for details again, but found nothing.
All automatic downloads are turned on in iTunes and App Stores- (music, apps, books.) There is no option for same in Music, or Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

I cant help thinking that the lock on the toolbar of my iPad has something to do with it, but darned if I can get rid of it!

I do appreciate your suggestions, its very kind of you to help. Sorry if I am frustrating you as much as this blasted machine is frustrating me! lol

In reply to: No iPad icon...

Hi again, P.
Am officially a moron. Still have the syncing problem, but the lock was just for screen rotation- which I am guessing you knew, but were too kind to mention... thank you.
