Windows prior to Vista can't use SATA without drivers or you set the BIOS to emulate IDE on SATA drives. BIOS setup is a personal area so I can't tell you any step by step. I can't tell what Windows CD you have so I must stop here.

I am trying to install a Western Digital Caviar Black Internal 1TB SATA hard on my computer. It will be the boot drive as it is the only one I have. My motherboard is an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe.
The drive requires files from the Data Lifeguard Tools disc that came with it to work. My BIOS won't even recognize that it is plugged in unless I go to the RAID Configuration Utility (Silicon Image). Even there, it sees a physical drive but no logical drive.
I have set the BIOS to boot from CDROM and let my PC read the disc while it starts up but every time it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
If I try a Windows disc it will load but then say there is no hard drive to install Windows on and then restarts.
I don't know where to go from here and really need some help
