Can't get TV to play through external speakers!

by dbsmith65 / February 26, 2011 2:03 AM PST

Just purhcased a Samsung Plasma PN50C550G1F and the HW-C560S AV Receiver System. I can't seem to get the TV to play through the receiver. I can get my iPhone to play through the system and I can play the FM radio through the system. But no TV! What am I doing wrong?

I have the HDMI cable going from the HDMI out on the receiver, to the HDMI IN 3 to the back of the TV. Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help!

"How do I set up my surround sound to my TV with HDMI cables?1 answer10/25/1012/11/10

Here is what one of the reviewers wrote. See if this helps you out too: "You need to add an optical digital cable to be able to get tv to work through speakers. I used an hdmi cable for outgoing stuff to tv and an optical cable to input from tv. I also had to call 800 number to correct settings . It was only playing out of front speakers from tv until I changed to matrix mode. This is glossed over in the manual and a bigger explanation is needed."
Hope this helps. I think this is the old audio return channel on HDMI issue but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the response Bob. The manual does give the impression that only the HDMI cable is needed. Off the the store I go! I'll let you know how I make out.

Thanks again,
