Question

Can't figure out problem?

by amorales559 / October 31, 2012 4:55 PM PDT

Hello!

Okay im having some problems with my PC.
I built this PC myself almost 2 years ago and have yet to have any issues prior to this.

Lets start with the problems, Recently my PC has randomly been resetting displaying CPU OVERHEATING black screen.
Then after it resets it displays another CPU over heating warning black screen sometimes.

So i cleaned it out, although i usually clean it out every month. The problem persisted.

I downloaded speedfan to check my cpu tempature as my pc was still randomly resetting with various errors, most recent one i remember is again over heating and a blue screen saying memory errors?

SpeedFan indicates that my pc runs normally at around 75-90 C which threw me aback.

I checked bios and it displays my temp ranging from 50-61c. Which is normal right?

Don't know which one to believe, i'm leaning towards bios but then my pc is resetting saying my CPU is overheating..

About 4 days ago i went out and got some new thermal paste, and re seating my heat sinc, I cleaned it off with 90- Isopropyl Alcohol, put on some Silver wolf 5 i think its called, and the temp on speed fan indicated it went down to 50c. But less then 20 minutes later it was again hitting the high 80s.

Really cant figure out whats wrong, i did order a new CPU cooler though, because I'm at a loss here.

Clarification Request
All those logs.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / November 1, 2012 3:52 AM PDT

All those logs are nice but at 2 years your PC is most likely suffering from aged parts. You see this a lot with electrolytic capacitors and the owners that think this stuff is solid state. We'll nod a lot and then check the age and if the parts were OK, the heatsink compound was refreshed and all the fans work we'll try the old cover off point a fan at the case test to see if some other part has become heat sensitive.

Those electronic software temperatures are untrustworthy. Don't fall for it. Get out a laser spot thermometer and take the reading.

With all those logs this discussion is unwieldy and overly large. But the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti does not appear to be stock. And I see HP all through this but you claim you built this?

-> For now, try the case cover off point a fan at it test.

Another thing,

I'm noticing slowdowns when running games, and occasionally they turn into complete freezes that last a 1-5 minutes or require a reboot.

Never had issues running this game before btw.

So we know it's a hardware issue, and we know it's not the memory.
Now it's up to you to fnd out what it is.

All those logs hamper me finding good clues. Your choice of course but I would have written more about the issue and boiled it down to what I could type to avoid a discussion that has us reading a novel.

Sorry,
by amorales559 / November 4, 2012 3:41 AM PST

Sorry i thought the log would of been the first thing you guys would ask for considering my past experience with asking for help, the first thing i'd get asked for is a dxdiagnostic.

Besides that. Thanks for the replies.

The only parts "HP" in/on this computer are the mouse/keyboard and speakers maybe, due to them coming from another computer. Otherwise all parts are off Newegg.

Other then that i did try the side panel test. It did make my temps go slightly lower, but not into the green, it was still ranging upper 70's.

It is only my CPU over heating, i have a stock cpu cooler.
Do you think that could be the issue? Or the cpu itself? Since it is the only thing over heating according to Speedtest?

I've noticed some other issues, like starting up, before the windows 7 welcome screen i get a black screen with just my cursor that sometimes never loads, or takes a minute or two to actually load up the Welcome blue screen then start explorer.

Like i mentioned ive gotten a couple errors, from over heating, page file errors, memory errors.
And the slow down in video games, my graphics card doesnt over heat or crash, just the game seems to stutter, or freeze, then start up again.

If someone can, just delete the dxdiag log and i can maybe attach it for anyone that thinks its relevant.

Maybe relevant?

In reply to: Sorry,

Other issues that maybe relevant,

Windows explorer kept crashing this morning when ever i clicked on anything in the start menu.
Had to restart computer to get get it to work,
And Firefox keeps crashing and resetting if that's relevant.

Easily discussing this with you.

As the clue does not appear to be above I'd move to solid fixes such as reloading the OS. If it fails then, then you know it's a hardware issue.

I bet you would have more respondents if you had made a post that you didn't have to page down a dozen times to find a reply button.

If by reinstalling
by mchainmchain / November 4, 2012 4:02 PM PST
In reply to: ??

You mean a clean install, then yes, all personal data will disappear.

Such an action requires forethought, such as backing up all important files on at least two different types of media. An USB flash drive and DVD or Blu-Ray would be such.

You also would have to reinstall all third-party programs you installed after you got your OS loaded and running again. OS updates and SP's also.

In any case, always back up what you can't lose; backups should be a part of your weekly computer maintenance routine.

Save your passwords to sites and such and write them down. Licenses for paid programs, etc.

If a clean install, then wiping your hard drive and then checking drive health with a drive utility is a good idea. Note that wiping is not the same as formatting.

Reinstalling does take planning.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / November 4, 2012 6:40 PM PST
In reply to: ??

But since hard drive contents can vanish without warning and it appears this machine is troublesome I hope you safeguard your files. At least the ones you can't lose.
