Bios Problem in NEW Studio 15

by cokids / April 20, 2010 1:24 AM PDT

I purchased a Studio 15 and it came with a bug. It shuts down all on it's own at odd intervals. Checked with the Dell site and they say that it needs a bios update. Well, they give instructions on the site for doing this(I have already downloaded the bios update), but everything I know says 'Don't touch the bios," so I'm afraid to do what they tell me to do and I wonder if they shouldn't fix it anyway as it is a new machine. They warrantee only hardware...not software and I think this would qualify as a software issue...right?

Still, they sent me a laptop with a bug in it which shouldn't BE!! Out of the box, it didnt' work right!! Of course, I put off dealing iwth it, so now the laptop is 2 months old (I've been just turning it back on when it dies.) and i'd like to fix it!! HELP!!

BIOS update and DELL
by Brechan / April 25, 2010 4:13 AM PDT

Because the computer is so new (and still under warranty) 'only 2 months old'; take the unit back to DELL and have them install the much needed update, this way if the update kills the computer, it's their fault not yours...and ultimately they will have to deal with it.

BIOS Update

Well my Studio 1555 also needed a BIOS update. Just do an online chat with dell support center. Go to the dell support center is installed on your computer and then go to get assistance from dell and then chat online. I've done this tons of times. The Dell Technician will control your computer remotely and do the update for you.

Both about the shutdown issue and the BIOS update.
