AVG TOP 5 weekly issues - October 12, 2012

** False positive alarms **

We noticed a couple of false positive alarms reported on forums in the past week. Anti-virus may detect a legitimate application sometimes when a part of its code is similar to a code in newly created malware. AVG implements advanced anti-false mechanisms to minimize risk of false alarms to prevent this. If you encounter such rare coincidence when AVG detects a clean file, please submit the respective file to our virus analysts. There are two options how to proceed:
A) Sending via this web page.
B) Sending via e-mail as described in this AVG Forums post. When a sample is analyzed, e-mail response is sent back to sender with result.
More information about false positive alarms is available in the above linked AVG Forums article or in FAQ 2343.

** Strange AVG file names **

Several users were confused by strangely named AVG files, mostly the "ROC_ROC_NT" file lately. If unsure about a certain file, we recommend checking its digital signature as follows:
- Right-click the respective file and select Properties from the context menu.
- Switch to the Digital Signatures tab.
- Verify that the file is signed by trusted authority (screenshot).
If unsure about an unsigned suspicious file, please send it to our virus specialists for analysis as described in the FAQ 2321 or contact AVG Technical support.

** Installation/upgrade to AVG 2013 is failing **

In some cases installation of AVG 2013 is failing. Please click Go online to learn about this issue in the AVG installation error dialogue which will show specific instructions, if available. We have prepared the FAQ 5175 article which can help you if no specific solution is provided. Please contact AVG customer care experts or AVG Forums if the installation is still failing

** Internet connection lost after installing AVG 2013 **

Some of you reported that Internet connection is blocked after AVG 2013 installation. This situation occurs only under specific circumstances. We are still collecting diagnostic data and investigating the root cause of this unpleasant situation.
Symptoms:
- AVG with Firewall component (AVG Internet Security or AVG Premium Security) is installed.
- There was a warning message Windows requires a digitally signed driver during the installation.
- Internet connection is not accessible after required computer restart.
We would like to ask you to contact AVG customer care experts or AVG Forums if your computer indicates mentioned symptoms. You may also follow this article as a temporary solution to regain lost internet connectivity.

** AVG BillGuard **

We would like to introduce new AVG service, the AVG BillGuard. AVG BillGuard is a free service that scans your bills for any suspicious or unwanted charges to protect you from hidden fees, billing errors, scams, and fraud. This service is currently available only in the USA. Please visit the AVG BillGuard website and FAQ 5278 to learn more and sign up for free.
