Avent T3400 won't turn on.

by Imp566 / February 3, 2013 5:34 AM PST

I was using my Advent T3400 earlier this evening, but as soon as I plugged a USB lead in the laptop immediately powered down. Subsequent attempts to turn it back on have been unsuccessful. Does anyone have an idea why this might be?

This is the second battery this laptop has had, and before this problem. it wouldn't work from battery alone, needing to be plugged in all the time. Not sure if this is relevant or not.

It's a clue, not much of one.

When batteries get old they can strain both the wall adapter and the charging circuits on the mainboard. If the generic reset fails (it's in the top post in the CNET Laptop Troubleshooting forum) then I'm going with bad adapter, battery and/or motherboard.
