Avast no longer free?

by 1Chris / May 3, 2009 12:38 PM PDT

One of my computers is running slow as molasses.
Been using Avast for years. Ran it the other day on that machine and it came up with a virus and I sent it to the chest.
Today, it started up scanning memory, etc. and then just disappeared. Went to the Avast site and it looks like to only option there is for a paid edition now.
Downloaded AVG but didn't install it yet; I'm kinda leary after seeing another user's problem with it.

I found it. It's "register ware" now. I guess some would call this "not free" but I didn't pay for it.

On the Avast site it has the option of downloading 21 zillion editions. Isn't that special?! Which one...the latest and greatest?

Even on the CNET download site it's got all these different version. So I just downloaded the latest on and told it to update the components. "There was an error in changing component configuration". Go figure :-). What now?
