Audio cuts out with blu-ray (bd1250 model)

by jwolf75 / December 29, 2009 8:45 AM PST

I purchased and installed the Samsung Bd-1250 HTIB back in September, and have had good experiences with it thus far. To test the blu ray at the time, I purchased Casino Royale, which worked wonderfully; no issues. I just now bought a new blu ray movie and within the first 5 minutes the sound cut out to all but a whisper (I assume the only speaker I could hear was either the center or either right or left channels; but not more than one). At first, I thought that the part of the movie was quiet and that what "sound" I heard was from a neighbor's apartment, cuz, it sounded distant and muffled. But, it wasn't; it was my set.

I stopped the movie, tested the speakers (the center seemed a little crackly, but it came through), and restarted the movie. The sound seemed "ok" but a little tinny - almost like the tv speakers - but the surround is working fine, so I know it's not using the tv speakers. Then, the sound cut in and out quickly again, though this time it, for the most part, stayed "on".

My TV is a Sharp Aquos 40" LCD, 1080p, 120hz. I also purchased it in September of this year.

To date, with regular tv and regular DVDs, I've not had any issues with sound.

But, I have heard that the blu ray player on this system tends to be problematic in many cases, so here I am.

Thanks
Jennifer

I have the same issue
by reksbg / December 30, 2009 1:04 AM PST

I have the same issue and not only with DVD disks but with any other audio source. When I switch the audio to the TV everything is OK. When it happens I found that if you press few times the buttons on the remote for sound effects it fixes it but some time doesn't. I'm sure it wasn't like that before the last firmware update. I'm thinking to go back with one of the old firmwares if it's possible because the system is useless like that.

jwolf75,

What movie were you having a sound issue with? Are other movies also showing the same symptom?

The movie was Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I'm rather certain it isn't a bad disc as the sound does not cut out in the same place(s) if I stop and restart. I managed to get through the movie finally with only a couple quick 'blips' in the sound, though still irritating.

As for other movies, as I stated in my original post (or so I thought), this is only the second Blu Ray disc that I've purchased and thus watched since installing the system in September.

I have watched several regular DVDs, however, without issue; and, the one other Blu Ray I used back in September (previous to the firmware update that added Blockbuster and YouTube), was Casino Royal, and was just dandy at the time. I've not tried it again since, however.

That's a start I suppose.

Not sure it addresses the potential issue I may have, however, with my system. And, seeing as it's only a 12 month warranty, I'd like to be sure that my system is fully functional soon so that I can exchange it, repair it, or get a refund should that be necessary.

I'd also like to know if it's the Blu Ray or the speakers. Not sure how to check that sort of thing.

Some guidance as to how to best troubleshoot this issue would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Jennifer

jwolf75,

If it's happening with one title, it could be an incompatibility - and that's something that's helpful to know. If it was happening with other titles, then it might be something that I'd suggest would be the Blu-Ray player itself. But if it's a singular title, it could be either/or.

If you think it requires a service, then I'd be happy to point you in the direction of that. Is it cutting out with anything besides Harry Potter since your recent posts?

It's happening with yet another Blu Ray title. I just popped in Shaun of the Dead tonight and the sound cuts out in the same manner, only it is more persistent (happens even when I rewind and try again) but not consistent (never the exact same areas on the movie cut out; but the spots are close).

Really frustrated with this. The studio that released this movie is different than the other one. (Harry Potter is Warner Bros., Shaun of the Dead is Universal.)

All my speaker wires seem connected snugly at both ends.

So long as I don't have to pay for it being serviced, I'm willing to take it in. Or, I'd be happy to get a refund if it's going to be regularly problematic.

Audio issue
by keeleylowe / July 10, 2010 4:30 AM PDT

I have the exact same issue with the Samsung BD-P3600. I posted on the BD-P3600 thread as well, but did want to note that this seems to be hapening on multiple models.

Continued issues
by keeleylowe / November 30, 2012 11:32 AM PST

I complained enough and they finally replaced my player with the BD-C6500. I encountered the same audio issues, where the sound goes mute for around 2 seconds every 30 or so seconds of play. Called Samsung technical support and they run me through constant troubleshooting "hoops" and fail to recognize there is an issue. My problem now is more consistent when streaming Netflix, Hulu, Netflix, etc. Annoying that Samsung fails to acknowledge the glitch.

Audio cuts out: "Avatar" Blu-Ray on HT-BD1250
by brawk / June 6, 2010 5:14 AM PDT

Folks,
A few months ago, I tried watching "Avatar" Blu-Ray on my HT-BD1250 BEv1.00. Failed to load, so I updated to BEv2.07_090923_XAA. Watched the movie all the way through w/out pausing w/no problems.

This afternoon, watched it again, but paused around chapter 19. When I restarted, the aud & vid were out of sync for ~20 seconds. Another 30 minutes later, the sound cut out on all channels. Stopped the disc, turned the player off & on, restarted at chapter 19. Sound was fine for another half hour or so, then cut out again. Same procedure restored it, and it was fine through the end of the movie.

I entered the info in the spreadsheet at
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=tlAFckDnoptK6XmnBTyoNqg&hl=en

Is this an issue fixed in the latest f/w? I will only update f/w if I hear from a Samsunger that this specific problem is fixed, as I've read about too many "brickings" going from 2.07 to a later rev.

Thanks,
-brawk

"Avatar" Blu-Ray seems to be playing OK.
Haven't tested how it does after pausing, though.
