add items to toolbar

by djohlson / March 12, 2010 11:35 PM PST

on my old G5 iMac I was able to add icons to the toolbar (the items on the top of the screen--date, airport etc. icons). i.e. mail (and it would alert me when I had a new msg) and calendar. Can't seem to find how to do it with my Intel 10.6.2 iMac. How do I do that? Thanks.

Adding items to the Menu bar

that option is still there for certain things, Airport, Bluetooth, date & a few other things but I do not recall there ever being one for Mail.

Having said that, there may have been a third party piece of software that could do the mail thing for you. Mail, if left running, will indicate the number of unread messages by displaying that number on the Mail icon in the dock.

Other than Mail, what are you missing from the Menu bar?

The is an old PPC application, Mail Watch, that shows mail in the menu bar. I've used it for years and still do today with my Intel Mini and OS 10.6.2. Still works great.

I finally figured out how to add those icons to the menu bar. I have Google Gmail and I can add those icons using the gmail settings.
Finally able to do something constructive with my new computer. Big adjustment from G5 to Intel.

more of an 10.5 to 10.6 thing

10.5 on an Intel is the same as 10.5 on a G5
