Acer Aspire fan noise

by vixhelp / December 23, 2009 6:10 AM PST

I have an Acer Aspire M3100-u3201A desktop. Today when I turned it on, the fan was very noisy. I tried rebooting it and then unplugging it for several hours. When that didnt work, I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the fan in case something was loose. Its still making noise and its driving me crazy. Until today, it has been extremely quiet. I am not a computer expert so I dont know what else to try. Anybody know how to fix this?

OK, exactly when . . .

is it noisy? Immediately after power up? After the PC runs for a while? Exactly what kind of noise? Buzzing, grinding, or just high speed?

Now, specifically which fan? The one on the processor, the one in the case, the one in the power supply?

Holler back and we'll go from there.

the noise starts as soon as the computer boots up. It sounds like its running fast but im really not sure which fan it is. (i know its the one in the back.) today when i started the computer, i didnt get any noise. im not sure if it has corrected itself or if the fan has died - it sounds like it is running quietly.
