by cassey2 / December 20, 2008 8:30 AM PST

96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 4x4 245xxx miles. was running fine, turned engine off , it has not started since. no pressure at fuel rail no spark at plugs , fuel pump never gets energized , not even the timed period after turning the key, can bypass pump relay and pump runs. At this same time the fuel gauge quit working low fuel warning stays on .
Have checked all fuses in the dist. box and the BCM
I have tried the short screws in the ecu, have pulled and wiggled the wire harness, switched the relays from other sockets ( known good ).
replaced the ECU with one from a wrecked ( not a junked ) vehicle.
what energizes or deenergizes ASD relay.

The ASD relay is controlled by the PCM, usually if this is the problem, you can swap the ASD relay with another matching relay (I use horn relay), and it will usually clear up.

That said, if you still have troubles, visit the forums at - there are a few posters over there who can give you some good suggestions.

I replaced the ECM with a known good one did not help. There was no spark no fuel and the instrument gauges ( volt, fuel ect.) would not work.
I disconnected the crankshaft sensor and the gauges worked, so I then replaced the sensor and all is fixed , running fine.
