5.1 CH Digital Audio Out a Disappointment

by JonB92 / August 26, 2010 12:54 AM PDT

The digital audio out on a Samsung UN46C6800 is a big disappointment! This TV only outputs 5.1 CH sound when receiving a DTV signal on ANT-IN. Devices connected to HDMI inputs only pass 2 CH to the Digital Audio Out.
Am I missing something here? All the newer devices use HDMI for signals. This TV has 4 HDMI inputs and none of these inputs pass the 5.1 CH audio to the Digital Audio Out (optical)?
Suggestions?

5.1 CH Digital Audio Out a Disappointment

JonB92,

The digital out only passes 5.1 audio from the tuner, that is correct.

If you're sending other devices to a receiver, they would need to be connected either through the receiver (HDMI pass-through) or with a separate optical cable.

is there any reason why samsung don`t passthru 5.1 sound
by bengt.thalberg / September 6, 2010 11:14 AM PDT

I just bought a tv (UE55C8705XS)with the same issue.
I also bought a sound system (HT-C6930W) witch both should
be the best on the current marked. because of this limmitation
with the 5.1 passthru i must use one of the two HDMI inputs on the
sound system and all the extra HDMI on the TV is useless (NO 5.1).

I have connected my set-top box to the HDMI on the reciever ant the reciever to HDMI1 on the tv. witch works just fine alomost. The problem is when i turn the systms on, it makes no diferense in witch order I always have to change the input to HDMI1 on the reciever.

When i connected the set-top box to the tv HDMI1 and the sound system to HDMI2 everything worked just fine without 5.1 sound.

My question to this is? is there any reason why samsung don`t passthru 5.1 sound and making anoying limitations to the system
I thoght Samsung where supposed to make an easy to use complete system
This in not that system that i thought it was.

sorry for the bad english
