Question

32ES6800 turns on by itself

by quasc / March 22, 2013 11:27 AM PDT

Hello. The problem with my tv is that it turns on by itself every 7-8 hours (I think it's random, more or less), but it doesn't display anything, the screen is black, yet the backlight is on and my external hdd is powered on too. Sometimes this lasts for only a few seconds, other times (more often) for about a minute and then it turns off again.
On the other hand it works just fine, I've had no other problems whatsoever. So I was thinking I could solve the problem somehow through the internet. The TV is still under warranty, but I didn't want to wait for them to solve it if I could find a solution.

Thanks in advance

Hi quasc,

Sorry to hear about this. I'm assuming that you've already checked for that the On-Timer is not set. What else have you attempted to do?

Yes, on and off timer are both off. Sleep Timer also. Even though that's the first thought that crosses one's mind, if on timer would have been turned on, then the tv should have turned on completely, not the way I've described it, I guess.
Except that I've haven't done much. The first time this happened was when I had my external hdd, router and my ps3 connected to it. I've disconnected the tv from the internet and I've disconnected the two devices, also. Still the same.
I've also used samsung remote control that I've installed on my android phone - if that has any relevance whatsoever and I have disabled a hdmi function (can't remember its name exactly - refers to the automatic connection to all share etc., which it did when I connected and turned on my ps3, for instance).
I guess that's it. Firmware is also up to date (it says there are no more updates to be made and some weeks ago it did a firmware update - don't know this very moment how to check the version number).

So, indeed, not a lot of things that I've changed, all in all.

Hi quasc,

Thanks for letting me know all the things you've done. I appreciate it. It seems you have done just about everything I'd recommend. The only other normal thing I'd recommend is doing a factory reset.

Before you do that, I'd like to narrow in on the behavior a bit more: when and how often does it automatically turn itself on?

By the way, just so you know, I support US products and customers. And from what I can tell, this model is for the UK. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) While I know in general how these products function, there may be some information that your country's support would have that I wouldn't know, so if you want to contact them, here's the Samsung UK portal for support on that product: http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/UE32ES6800UXXU

Hope this helps you!

Actually I'm from Romania. They might be for UK, too, but that's a different subject Happy As long as you can give me some pieces of advice, it's fine by me.

Well, as I said in my first post, it's rather random. By the way, the TV is quite new (less than 2 months) - so I suppose it couldn't have gone through a lot of changes. Anyway, I couldn't tell with maximum accuracy how often this happens, but twice a day would be a good guess. Sometimes, as I said, it turns on (backlight only + the external hdd) only for a couple of seconds (that's less frequent), other times (more frequently) it stays like this for a minute or so and then it turns back off (it always turns back off after a while). It happened during the day and during the night, so I don't think it's clock related. I could also say that if I'd turn it off within a period of 24 hours, it would probably turn on/off maybe 4 times even (if I consider how often it does that in relation to the period of time in which it is turned off but in the power socket - hope that makes sense :D).

So I'm waiting for further advice. Thanks.

Hi quasc,

My only further guess is that maybe you have something blasting an IR signal in your TV's room. You can check that idea by covering up the IR receiver area with some kind of object. If it stops happening after that, you can surmise that something in that room is putting out an IR signal of some kind. If it's not that, then we've at least eliminated that as a possibility.

Anything else would be probably be a repair in your country because of some kind of hardware problem.

Hope that helps!

IR

Hi,

When you say "IR", are you referring to the digital audio (optical)? I don't know if I have anything else in the TV that resembles an IR. Anyway, I'll try it, even though it has a plastic cover over it.

Hi quasc,

I'm referring to the infrared receiver (IR) on your TV for getting commands from your remote. It's possible that something else is accidentally triggering it. It's extremely uncommon, but I've seen it happen now and then.

Just wanted to say that I eventually sent it to a samsung service, and the problem was related to an auto-updated that I could have turned off from the support section, and which I had missed completely. So I guess that was it. The option allowed the tv could check for software/firmware updates while in standby/turned off. So that's it Happy Thanks for your support.
